All 4th and 5th graders are invited to become a Neihardt Golden Sower Reader. This year's nominees will be available in the Library beginning mid-September. Reading is done on the students' own time and there are no official meetings. Those students having successfully completed 4 of the books by the first week in April will be eligible to vote for this year's Golden Sower winner.
Golden Sower Club
All 4th and 5th graders are invited to join Neihardtʼs Golden Sower Club. The first 30 students will be in the club, after that, we will keep a waiting list, as some students usually decide not to continue. Meetings are Thursday mornings from 7:45 to 8:15am in the Library. Our club sponsors are Mrs. Ward, our Librarian, and Mrs. Grohmann and Mr. Duncan, two of our fifth-grade teachers, who will lead the students in book discussions. Students are encouraged to read as many nominee titles as possible before the Club meetings begin in late January. Students must be able to finish a “chapter” book in one week, as we have ten to read before the Quiz Bowl. o Students who are strong leaders and careful readers will have the opportunity to be selected to represent Neihardt at the Golden Sower Quiz Bowl in April. Please understand that we cannot provide supervision for younger brothers or sisters during the meetings, so 4th/5th graders will need to come to school separately.
The Neihardt Golden Sower Quiz Bowl is by invitation only for 4th and 5th grade students who have participated in and completed the requirements for the Golden Sower Club. This group is a continuation of the Golden Sower Club. Our last meeting is in mid-April. The Quiz Bowl is on a Thursday afternoon in April at Holling Heights Elementary. More information on the Quiz Bowl will be coming as it gets closer.
